V8 engines, with their characteristic rumble, are synonymous with automotive power. Thanks to the balanced arrangement of two rows of four cylinders in a V configuration, V8 engines produce less vibration than six-cylinder engines, resulting in a larger and more powerful engine. Patented in 1902 by French engineer Léon Levavasseur, the V8 is best known for adding muscle to muscle cars, but did you know that V8 engines were first widely used in motorboats, and have even been used in airplanes and motorcycles? Engine and model enthusiasts have been asking us for a complex engine model for years, and here it is: the Ugears V8 engine!

The V8 engine is a 1:6 scale model that operates either by an electric motor or by turning a knob, allowing you to observe the mesmerizing workings of this iconic internal combustion engine. The model fully replicates the main mechanisms of a real V8, including eight cylinders with pistons moving in cycles, with two cylinders "firing" every 90 degrees of crankshaft rotation, 16 spring-loaded valves opening and closing when pushed by the heads onto the rotating camshafts, crankcase and timing components connected by a timing chain, and a butterfly valve on the intake manifold. This model is powered by an electric motor resembling a generator. A serpentine belt connects the crankshaft pulley to various pulleys representing engine accessories such as the air conditioning compressor, alternator, power steering pump, and water pump. Connect the model to a power source using a USB-C cable, then flip the On/Off switch to “On” to see your engine come to life, or manually set the V-8 engine in motion by turning the knob below the On/Off switch.

Other strikingly realistic details include stylized exhaust manifolds, spark plugs, an oil pan, an oil dipstick, and caps on top for oil and brake fluid. The model is assembled in stages: first the cylinder block, then the valve blocks, which provides a better understanding of the engine's workings. The rubber band at the front of the engine can be easily replaced, while the throttle rubber band can also be replaced by removing the intake manifold. The timing chain has 32 links, and its tension can be adjusted using two tensioners, ensuring that the chain is neither too loose nor too tight.

The Ugears V8 engine is an advanced model, intended for experienced modelers. Your efforts will be rewarded with a better understanding of how an internal combustion engine works when you build and operate this highly realistic wooden engine model. This complex 3D engine can be assembled without glue or special tools, following the step-by-step illustrated instructions in 11 languages (English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean). The parts are made of artist-grade composite wood and come loose from pre-cut laser-cut boards. Be sure to sand and lubricate all moving parts thoroughly with the provided sandpaper and wax (or other lubricant of your choice) to ensure optimal engine operation.

You can leave the model in its natural state, or color it with paint or stain, for example by assigning different colors to the different manifolds and components (paints not included). Your V8 engine kit includes 776 parts, and we have included 25 spare parts.
