Built of massive stone blocks and over 100 meters high, the Lighthouse of Alexandria was one of the tallest man-made structures in the world. It survived for over a thousand years until a series of earthquakes, the last in 1303, toppled it into the sea. Remains of the great lighthouse, including granite blocks, columns, and statues, were rediscovered on the bottom of Alexandria Harbor in 1968 and can still be seen by divers today.
